Holidays in India can give you a clear picture of what old India actually was. Temples are devoted to everything for that it is possible: to gods of the sun, sacred cows and love between the man and the woman. Erotic stages are cut out from a stone and boldly embossed on facades of many temples, which have given Khajuraho the world popularity.

The temples of Khajuraho, constructed during the period from 950 till 1050 by the powerful governors of the Chandela dynasty. Temples are well known for the magnificent carving representing stages from the known treatise of love "Kama Sutra".

The largest and the most important are the temples of the Western Group. Following constant thousand-year tradition in Matangeshvara Temple divine services till now are made.

The temples consist of the basic towers, surrounded by smaller turrets. There are statues of gods, goddesses, kings, heroes and the lovers who have merged in passionate embrace inside.

The open portico conducts in the main hall behind of which there is a lobby leading in the basic sanctuary. There is a main statue of the god. Actually, the sculpture and the architecture here are so perfect, that each building seems to be not man-made creation.

Kandaria Mahadev is the biggest and the most impressed from the temples of the western group and it is devoted Shiva. More than 900 sculptures decorate a sanctuary with its harmonious tower, embodying the mountain Mera - a symbol of the Earth and the Universe.

The sanctuary has been partially destroyed by conquerors - Moslems and consequently it has lost for the believers its value. Laksman Temple is remarkable with the stone platform, where Vishnu sanctuary is located.

The other “tiny” sanctuary in the opposite side is devoted to the same deity (in an embodiment of a wild boar). With their size amaze temples Vishvanath and Nandi, dedicated to the goddess Shiva as the lord of the world (Vishvanath) and its satellite Nandi in an embodiment of the white bull. The Panna National Park is in 50 kilometers from Khajuraho. Combine business with pleasure, feel a little Mowgli, climb on a tree, fondle a little elephant, listen frogs in jungle at the river.
