Nag Panchami is a Day of worship to the serpent. It came from the Doaric period. In this day, especially in villages, the worship to a cobra or to its image is a symbol of energy and well-being.
The magician goes with a cobra from the house to the house, begging. Women offer milk and the prepared rice for the snake and gather around to look, as snake moves under a melody pungi.
Within the day people in their houses worship to clay images of snakes, and immerse them in the river in the evening. In the south of India, especially in Kerala, temples of the snake are filled all the day long by people who worship to the stone or metal images of the space serpent.
Holidays in West Bengal are a great fun with all these festivals.
